Tirana, Albania, April 3, 2017. The regular season of the Albanian women’s national league has finished and the top four teams from the standings have secured their progression to the playoffs. These are Barleti Volley, Teuta, Partizani and Tirana – which lived up to the expectations to remain in contention for the national league title. Reigning national champions Barleti Volley finished the regular season on top of the pile with 14 wins in as many matches. As a result, after taking the national cup title one month ago, the team from the Albanian capital remain the heavy favourite for celebrating a second domestic triumph.
The Playoffs will start next week and since they topped the charts of the regular season, Barleti Volley will enjoy the home advantage for most of their matches. Teuta edged Partizani in a close fight for second place in the standings after taking the matchup these two teams played in the last round of the regular season. As a result, Teuta will play two of their three semi-final matches with Partizani on home soil. Tirana were the last team to make the cut for the Playoffs and they will play Barleti Volley in the semis in a real capital derby. Even though Tirana finished fourth, the fans can still expect some close and exciting matches in this semi-final series as well.
