Studenti and Vllaznia to fight for top honours in Albania men’s national league

Tirana, Albania, April 19, 2017. Studenti and Vllaznia will contest the championship series of the Albanian men’s national league after the thrilling semis finished on Tuesday night. Reigning national champions Studenti needed only two matches to reach the final stage of the competition, whereas Vllaznia had to play three games to achieve that same feat. The finals will start soon – this coming weekend.

Partizani had finished the regular season in first place and won the national cup earlier this season – and as a result, they were the favourite side to seize the national league title as well. However, things went differently in the end. Partizani had the right to play two out of three matches on home soil – yet this was not enough to make it to the finals. Vllaznia rallied to a 3-2 victory over Partizani in Tirana before their opponents responded by taking an away victory – by the same score – in Shkoder. These two matches were extremely close and exciting – a real joy to watch for the fans in attendance. Partizani looked more tired in the third and all-deciding match, whereas Vllaznia fought more, thus coming out on top (3-1) to progress to the finals – where they will be vying for the first national league title in their history.

Studenti claimed the second spot in the finals – thus confirming their steady improvement throughout the season. They have not lost a single match in 2017 and even though Farka Volley put up a fight in the semis, Studenti claimed 3-2 and 3-1 victories. Farka Volley went up twice by one set in the first matchup, but they did not manage to capitalise on this advantage. Studenti levelled the score and eventually won the all-deciding tiebreak. The second match was almost just as close, with the third set turning into a real marathon, which ended by the score of 37-35. Finally, Studenti deserved their qualification to the final and they will be trying to retain the crown they won last year.
