Teams from Brčko sweep national league titles in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, April 25, 2017. Two teams from the city of Brčko – ŽOK Bimal-Jedinstvo and OK Mladost – claimed this past weekend the championship title in the women’s and men’s national league of Bosnia and Herzegovina, respectively. The Volleyball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina will provide for the winners small financial awards, and namely € 1,500 per gender.

In the women’s competition, ŽOK Bimal-Jedinstvo retained the crown they had won in 2016 and they did so after winning two matches in a row in the championship series with OK GAČKO. They took the first match 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 22-25, 25-18) before rallying to a comprehensive 3-0 victory in the second (25-13, 25-12, 25-16). As a result, ŽOK Bimal-Jedinstvo could celebrate the eleventh national league title in their history after earlier this season they made a historic appearance in the CEV Volleyball Champions League.  

In the men’s competition, OK Mladost BRČKO were able to retain the trophy they had won in 2016 as well. In the finals, the players from Mladost played two exciting matches with OK Radnik BIJELJINA. In the first match played in Bijeljina, Mladost pulled off a 3-2 victory (23-25, 25-23, 25-13, 18-25, 15-11) before coming back from two sets down in the re-match at home to rally to another 3-2 win (17-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-23, 15-11). The achievement coincides with the fourth national championship title for OK Mladost.
