OK BUDVA and Galeb crowned Montenegro’s cup winners

Budva, Montenegro, April 10, 2019. Last weekend, Budva was again the Volleyball capital of Montenegro while hosting the Super Finals of the Balkan country’s national cup. The eventual winners were hosts OK BUDVA in the men’s competition – while Galeb Poliklinika Hipokrat secured top honours in the women’s tournament. The event was a truly successful one – showing the vitality of Montenegro’s Volleyball family.

Galeb edged Luka BAR 3-2 in the women’s finale (18-25, 32-30, 14-25, 25-21, 15-9) at the end of a thrilling match that lasted more than two hours. Galeb retained their title with a huge contribution from Nevena Vukcevic, who scored a massive tally of 36 points at the tender age of 16! “Luka BAR were the favourites of this match but we showed much quality and that we had prepared well for this fixture,” said Vukcevic. “I am happy we could beat them after suffering two losses earlier this season. Congratulations to my teammates and to the coaching staff as well.”

The men’s final was far more one-sided with OK BUDVA claiming the trophy at their first attempt. They controlled the match from start to end to beat Jedinstvo Franca BIJELO POLJE 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-22) with their Japanese setter Shun Imamura receiving the MVP award.

“I think we played a great game as a team. We did not made a mistake, played great and delivered a good performance in attack and reception. It looks as though I am a big fan of my team now, but we have shown our game for which we have been training for seven months. I would also like to congratulate the team of Jedinstvo on a fair and correct game. This is not the end, we are now expecting a more important part of the season, the playoff finals, and we hope for another triumph,” said Ivan Zvicer of OK BUDVA.
