Serbia to start preparations for exciting 2019 season in mid-May

Belgrade, Serbia, April 23, 2019. The men’s national team of Serbia, bronze medallists from the 2017 EuroVolley and fourth at last year’s FIVB World Championship in Italy and Bulgaria, are looking forward to contesting three very important competitions this year: the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League, the intercontinental qualifier for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and the CEV EuroVolley 2019.

Their head coach Nikola Grbić will start this campaign with a new staff, and the first meeting for this purpose took place at the premises of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, where the people who will be in charge of the team discussed the plans for the upcoming season.

After the meeting, Mr. Zoran Gajić, President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, talked with members of the staff. Nikola Grbić, head coach, Danilo Mrdja, team manager, Bojan Janić, assistant coach, Prof. Dr. Vladimir Koprivica, coordinator of the staff, Uroš Stojčov, Stefan Markuljević, Zdravko Aničić and Vladan Mihajlović, all physical trainers, attended the meeting.

Due to their club obligations, Tomaso Totolo, analyst, Igor Žakić, assistant coach, Dr. Ljuban Martinović, doctor, Dejan Vuković, physiotherapist, and Djordje Pejić, statistician, were absent.

Earlier this month, Nikola Grbić announced the list of candidates for this year’s competitions:

Setters: Nikola Jovović, Masim Buculjević, Andrija Vilimanović, Aleksa Batak, Vuk Todorović.

Opposite hitters: Aleksandar Atanasijević, Dražen Luburić, Dušan Petković, Božidar Vucicević, Lazar Dodić.

Liberos: Neven Majstorović, Goran Škundrić, Nikola Peković, Stefan Negić.

Middle blockers: Srećko Lisinac, Marko Podraščanin, Petar Krsmanović, Aleksandar Okolić, Nemanja Mašulović, Stevan Simić, Djordje Ilić, Stefan Kovačević.

Outside hitters: Uroš Kovačević, Marko Ivović, Nemanja Petrić, Lazar Ćirović, Milan Katić, Miran Kujundžić, David Mehić, Pavle Perić, Luka Tadić, Danilo Pavlović.

Serbia will host the tournament of Pool 4 over the first weekend of action in the Volleyball Nations League, from May 31 to June 2, at Vojvodina Hall of Sports in the city of Novi Sad, with the teams of France, Russia and Japan. As for EuroVolley 2019, Serbia will start their quest for glory in Brussels and Antwerp in a group featuring the likes of co-hosts Belgium, Germany, Slovakia, Spain and Austria.
