Zeleznicar LAJKOVAC, Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD crowned Serbian cup winners

Lajkovac, Serbia, March 12, 2019. Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD have secured the men’s national cup of Serbia title for the 14th time, as Zeleznicar LAJKOVAC claimed the women’s title for the second year in a row.

Zeleznicar retained the women’s crown as they beat Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-21) in the final of the 53rd edition of this prestigious competition. Crvena Zvezda, on the other hand, managed to beat Radnicki doo KRAGUJEVAC 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-20) in the men’s final, to claim the title for the 14th time in their history.

The matches took place in a packed Lajkovac Sports Hall in the presence of more than 3,000 spectators.

Jelena Stanimirovic, outside hitter of Zeleznicar, and Danilo Pavlovic, who plays in the same position for Crvena Zvezda, received the women’s and men’s MVP award, respectively.

Mr Zoran Gajic, President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, presented the trophy for the winners of the men’s competition to the experienced Vlado Petkovic, team captain of Crvena Zvezda.

Mr Bojan Kekic, President of the Executive Board in Banka Postanska Stedionica - general sponsor of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, awarded Ivana Lazarevic, team captain of Zeleznicar, with the trophy for the winners of the women’s competition.

Mr Ivan Knezevic, Secretary General in the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, and Mr Zlatko Petrovic, member of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia Assembly, presented the gold medals to the players of Zeleznicar.

Mr Andrija Zivkovic, Lord Mayor of Lajkovac, and Mr Bogdan Mamuzic, President of the Association of First Division Volleyball Clubs, awarded the players of Crvena Zvezda with the gold medals.

Mr Radoslav Milic, President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia Assembly, presented Katarina Canak, team captain of Crvena Zvezda, with the consolation trophy for the losers of the women’s final. Mr Djula Mester, First Vice-President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, awarded Nemanjia Stevanovic, team captain of Radnicki doo KRAGUJEVAC, with the prize for the runners-up of the men’s competition.

Mr Dragutin Cuk, Technical Director in the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, presented the players of Crvena Zvezda with the silver medals for the women’s tournament.

Mr Zivorad Lazarevic, President of VC Zeleznicar, and Dr Bogdan Sretenovic, President of the Association of Volleyball Coaches, member of the Executive Board and Sports Director in charge of junior, youth and pre-youth men’s national teams in the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, awarded the players of Radnicki doo with the silver medals for the losers of the men’s final.

Mrs Ljiljana Askovic, Banka Postanska Stedionica representative, presented Jelena Stanimirovic, the MVP of the Finals, with the cashier’s check. Ms Suzana Cebic, former member of the senior women’s national team of Serbia, presented Jelena Stanimirovic with the MVP trophy.

Mrs Jelena Sekulovic, Banka Postanska Stedionica representative, presented Danilo Pavlovic, the MVP of the Finals, with the cashier’s check. Pavlovic received the MVP trophy from Aleksa Brdjovic, a member of the men’s national team of Serbia.
