Bianca Cucu – Romania’s 12-year-old wunderkind at #EuroVolleyU17W

The youngest player currently competing in the final round of this year’s #EuroVolleyU17W was born on December 4, 2010. She is none other than Bianca Cucu, Romania’s outside hitter, who is only 12 years and seven months old!

Cucu is regarded as Romania’s most promising talent in the sport. The player of C.S.S. Buzau and the U17 national team has not yet turned 13 and yet she was already a member of the group at the European qualifiers contested earlier this year, when she usually scored the most points for her side. In 2022, she won the so-called mini championship with her club, and Bianca was elected the best player of the season in the competition.

Standing at 182 cm tall, Cucu delivered an impressive performance for Romania when they claimed their first and only success at the continental tournament in Békéscsaba, edging past hosts Hungary at the tiebreak. Cucu scored 16 points in the process. According to her, she has inherited the love for the sport from her mother.
