Huge win for Montenegro, Bulgaria falls after intense battle

Turkiye, Serbia, and North Macedonia also recorded victories on the opening day

The U19M Balkan Volleyball Championship has opened in Banja Luka, and the first day already featured some exciting matches. The national teams of Turkiye, Montenegro, Serbia, and North Macedonia recorded victories.

Turkiye opened the tournament in Pool A with a 3:1 win (25:18, 25:19, 20:25, 25:22) over Romania. Ata Unver led the winning team with 24 points, Bern Senturk added 13, and Ege Mehmet Biber scored 12. For Romania, Tudor Costin was the top scorer with 17 points.

The most thrilling match of the day came next, as Montenegro defeated Bulgaria after more than two hours of play, 3:2 (25:20, 25:21, 23:25, 21:25, 16:14). Montenegro was led by Luka Lojić with 24 points and Vuk Stanijević with 22, while Bulgaria’s top scorer was Nikola Konstantinov with 17 points.

In the same group, Serbia claimed a 3:1 victory over Greece (25:17, 23:25, 25:19, 25:17). Stefan Popić delivered an outstanding performance with 24 points for the winning side, followed by Saša Radovanović with 12 and Stefan Soko with 11. For Greece, Perdikeas was the only player in double digits with 12 points.

In the final match of a long and demanding day, North Macedonia defeated the host nation, Bosnia and Herzegovina 3:1 (25:20, 25:23, 20:25, 25:15).
