Vakifbank Istanbul Wins the SuperFinals to Become the Best Team in History

by Press 22/05/2022
written by Press

It’s official, Vakifbank Istanbul is now the best team in CEV Champions League Volley history after winning their fifth title tonight, fending off a stern opposition from Imoco Volley Conegliano in just four sets 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 23-25, 25-21).

A loud crowd supporting all sides came to the Stozice Arena in the Slovenian Capital of Ljubljana to witness yet another top SuperFinals event between two sides that have created a rivalry long awaited by everyone.

After losing the final last season against the same opponent, Vakifbank and its coach, Giovanni Guidetti came into this match determined to reclaim their crown and that determination was visible from the first serve. Going forward into the match, Vakifbank seemed to be a step above Imoco, all up until the second part of the third set which saw the Italians putting up a real fight and getting back into the Final by taking the set.

On the other side of the net, Daniele Santarelli had called this SuperFinal a “Last Dance” for his team, a group of players that had brought Imoco Volley to new heights but that will now go through massive changes in their roster. It wasn’t meant to be today, but we surely expect the “new Imoco” to continue to be one of the best teams in Europe. What a match! Congratulations to both teams and their fans!

VakifBank Istanbul hosted the CEV Champions League Volley semifinalist Fenerbahce Opet Istanbul for the fifth and the last battle of the final series in the Turkish Sultanlar League.

VakifBank, therefore also managed to defend their title and got the fourth league championship in a row.

Turkish opposite Melissa Vargas and Russian outside hitter Arina Fedorovtseva scored 14 points apiece for Fenerbahce.

KV PËJA reign supreme in Kosovo men’s national league finals

by Press 16/05/2022
written by Press

KV PËJA were obviously the dominant force in this year’s Kosovo men’s national league and they recently completed their run in the championship series with KV Luboteni FERIZAJ with a clean sweep of three wins in as many matches. Their last 3-0 triumph (25-21, 25-22, 25-16) was even more comprehensive than the 3-1 victories they had celebrated in the first and second round of the final playoffs.

This success completes a perfect season for the team – as only a few weeks ago they had won the national cup title as well.

The Secretary General of the Kosovo Volleyball Federation (FVK), Mr Valon Nikqi, and the member of the FVK Board of Administration, Gazmend Husaj, awarded the winners with the gold medals. FVK President Bahri Gjinovci presented the most prestigious trophy in Kosovar Volleyball to the captain of KV PËJA, Agron Nikçi, before a real party followed in front of a large number of home fans.

The President of the Municipal Assembly of Pëja, Rexhep Kurtbogaj and FVK Board of Administration member Abedin Mehani awarded the players of KV Luboteni FERIZAJ with the silver medals for the runners-up of the competition.

written by Press

KV Drita have emerged as this year’s winners of the Kosovo women’s national league at the end of a thrilling final against Fer Volley, which ended after KV Drita GJILAN recorded three wins to one for their rivals in the championship series.

The two teams showed real quality in a spectacular match that took place at the ‘Bill Clinton’ Volleyball Hall in Ferizaj, with more than 1,500 fans in attendance. They will remember this match for a very long time as they enjoyed some two hours of Volleyball at its finest. KV Drita eventually won 3-2 (20-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-23, 15-11) to trigger jubilant scenes from head coach Lorik Ilazi and the players. This is their second domestic triumph this season, after KV Drita had claimed the national cup of Kosovo a few weeks ago.

The Secretary General of the Kosovo Volleyball Federation (FVK), Valon Nikqi, Vice-President Mimoza Shkodra and a member of the FVK Board of Administration, Mr Gazmend Husaj, awarded the champions with the gold medals. FVK President Bahri Gjinovci presented the trophy designed for the winners of the national league to the team captain of KV Drita, Adelajda Prenga before celebrations with the fans ensued shortly afterwards.

FVK Vice-President Abedin Ibrahimi, board members Halime Fetahu and Valon Xhafaj and a well-known coach from the city of Tetovo, Namikqemal Mustafa, awarded the silver medals to the players from Ferizaj in recognition of their valiant effort.
