Partizan Efbet complete treble with 12th national league title

by Press 27/04/2023
written by Press

Partizan Efbet BEOGRAD are the winners of the 2022/2023 Banka Poštanska Štedionica Superliga and as such, the newly crowned men’s Serbian national champions. On Tuesday night, in Novi Sad, in the third match of the championship series, Partizan Efbet defeated Vojvodina NS Seme NOVI SAD 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-16), thus finishing the playoffs after three matches only.

Djula Mester, President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, presented the winners’ trophy to Milija Mrdak, team captain of Partizan Efbet. Ivan Knežević, Secretary General of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, handed over the consolation trophy intended for the runners-up of the competition to Petar Krsmanović, team captain of Vojvodina.

“Right from the start we took it match by match, and we did not think too much ahead. We started the season by winning the Supercup trophy, and it was fine, but then we won the Serbian Cup, and everybody said good, but the biggest one is yet to come. In this championship series, after winning the first two matches, we came to Novi Sad to play our game. In the first set we were a bit nervous, and it was normal, but after that we played our recognisable Volleyball and won the third trophy of the season. I wish this season would never end. We had a fantastic atmosphere, the guys were great, it was a memorable feeling for everyone in the club,” said Bojan Janić, head coach of Partizan Efbet.

“This was not unexpected. Partizan played well throughout the whole season. I must admit that they were better than us, even in the series of three out of five matches. They kept their composure and patience. We played a good match tonight, we had our chances in all matches, but in the end, Partizan found the way to beat us. Congratulations to them,” said Slobodan Boškan, head coach of Vojvodina.

Milija Mrdak, team captain and opposite hitter of Partizan Efbet, was named the best player (MVP) of the 2022/2023 Banka Poštanska Štedionica Superliga play-off finals.

Vesna Nikić, director of the Novi Sad branch of Banka Poštanska Štedionica (Postal Savings Bank), the general sponsor of volleyball leagues in Serbia, presented Milija Mrdak with a € 500 check intended for the best player of the championship series. Danilo Mrdja, Competitions Director, presented Mrdak with the MVP trophy.

“This is a great feeling. Without this final victory the season would not be complete, even though we previously won two trophies. We fought very hard, we were excellent when it was most needed and we wanted this so bad, so congratulations to my team.”

OK HERCEG NOVI cap fabulous, immaculate season with national league crown

by Press 25/04/2023
written by Press

OK HERCEG NOVI stormed to a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Galeb Liko Soho Group in the third match of the Montenegrin women’s national league championship series and, after three matches, they celebrated their first national championship title in history. With this dominant victory and without losing any set throughout the whole season, OK HERCEG NOVI completed a phenomenal campaign. Even though there was a somewhat balanced game in the third match of the final series of the EPCG Super League, the defending champions Galeb Liko Soho Group could not win even a consolation set. At the end, it was 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-19) for OK HERCEG NOVI, who claimed the double crown after winning the Montenegrin Cup in early April.

“Congratulations to my team for a brilliant season, both in terms of the championship and the national cup. When we were putting the team together, we did not intend or expect to be so dominant. We expected a little more resistance from other teams, especially from those based in Bar. I think that with our approach, professionalism, and by creating a powerful, respectable team, we pushed others to step up and improve. My great wish for the next season is for the semi-finals and finals of the Montenegrin league to be more open, which would mean that other teams will try to get closer to our level, and that young players will grow alongside older aces. This way, we will try to bring Volleyball in Montenegro closer to the top of Europe, with small but valuable and significant steps,” said Milorad Krunić, coach of OK HERCEG NOVI.

OK HERCEG NOVI were so dominant that they did not lose a single set throughout the whole season

“I congratulate the Herceg Novi’s team on a well-deserved double crown. They played exceptionally well and dominated throughout the season, and in the end, they deservedly won both trophies. It is regrettable that we were not complete to give our maximum, but that is sport. I also congratulate my girls on what they have done in the finals,” said Petar Koković, coach of Galeb Liko Soho Group.

The first set of the third match suggested that Galeb was not willing to give up the title easily. The guests provided the best resistance in the final series in the opening set, took the lead several times, and were equal until the very end of the set when Milorad Krunić’s team stepped up and took the lead 1-0 with a score of 25-22.

In a similar rhythm, OK HERCEG NOVI continued, and they convincingly opened the second set, quickly reaching a double-digit lead and taking a 2-0 lead after reducing their opponents to only 13 points. In the last set, Galeb again put up a solid resistance, leading several times and even had a tangible advantage of 8-5. Still, the hosts won several points in a row and found solutions to their problems. After OK HERCEG NOVI scored four unanswered points, there was a turnaround (9-8), then after a break, the eventual winners had a significant lead, 13-9, which Galeb managed to catch up with briefly, but it was obvious that Galeb could not stop the relentless attacks of their opponents. At the end of the set, by the score of 25-19, there was a big celebration for Tatjana Bokan and her teammates.

The former captain of the Montenegrin national team, Tatjana Bokan, who was the leader of OK HERCEG NOVI this season, was the most efficient player, as in every match of the final series. She collected 19 points, and Diana Balai was also in double figures with 11.

“I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate my team, the girls, coaching staff, club management, everyone, because this was total domination! We have proven this throughout the season and achieved great success. I can freely say it is a historic success. Nobody has managed to finish both the regular season and the Cup and playoffs without losing a single set. We are waiting for someone to equalise our result, but nobody can surpass us now. What can I say? Double crown! I’m very happy!”

Natalija Vlaović was the most effective player of Petar Koković’s team, with nine points, while Charlotte Richards stopped at eight.

“The Herceg Novi team showed that they were rightfully the favourites with a 3-0 win in the final game. We tried to fight to the end with their quality and experienced team. I hope we showed some aspects of that, we could have done better, but their quality made the difference and this final match had to end like this,” concluded the captain of Galeb Liko Soho Group, Teodora Čavić.

OK HERCEG NOVI is the fourth champion in the history of the EPCG Super League since the restoration of Montenegrin independence, after record holders Luka Bar and the teams Galeb Liko Soho Group and Budućnost.

Jedinstvo STARA PAZOVA claim historic Serbian national league title

by Press 25/04/2023
written by Press

Jedinstvo STARA PAZOVA have achieved the greatest success in the club’s history after claiming the title of Serbian women’s national champions for the first time. In the fourth match of the Banka Poštanska Štedionica Superliga finals, Jedinstvo defeated ZOK UB 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-14) after 78 minutes of action to finish the championship series with three wins to their name and only one for the opposition.

Djula Mešter, President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, handed over the championship trophy to Isidora Kockarević, team captain of Jedinstvo. Ivan Knežević, Secretary General of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, presented the trophy specifically designed for the runners-up to Sladjana Erić, team captain of ZOK UB.

Branka Tica, receiver of Jedinstvo, was named the best player (MVP) of the Banka Poštanska Štedionica Superliga play-off finals and she received the award from Vesna Djurišić, Vice-President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia. Mladen Savić, director of the Sremska Mitrovica branch of the Banka Poštanska Štedionica (Postal Savings Bank), the general sponsor of the national volleyball leagues in Serbia, presented Branka Tica with a check of € 500 intended for the best player of the championship series.

“I have been waiting for this title for years and I am glad that this generation of players have achieved this major goal. I hope that we will continue winning trophies in the coming years too. I think that we played on a high level throughout this season, and I want to congratulate my 14 players and my staff for this excellent result”, said Jovo Caković, head coach of Jedinstvo STARA PAZOVA.

“Our outside hitters today performed poorly, so we managed to score points only through the middle blockers. I expected a better match from us, we received well, but our attack was not efficient. Jedinstvo beat us with ease. They played well the whole season, and they deserved this title. We could not do more in this moment. We had problems with injuries, especially with our first setter, and several other players, so if we had not had these misfortunes, maybe this series would have gone the other way around,” explained Marijana Boričić, head coach of ZOK UB.

“We are too emotional right now. We deserved this. This is a great success for us. I want to thank my hero teammates who pulled through this, and I am so proud of them”, said Isidora Kockarević Captain of Jedinstvo STARA PAZOVA

“This MVP award belongs to the whole team. This season was the most difficult one since I came, and I have been here for five years now. We played three major competitions, so many matches, and we deserved this. We believed in us, and God rewarded us for our effort. This is a historic night for us and for the club,” said Branka Tica, outside hitter of Jedinstvo and MVP of the final play-off series.
