The final tournament of the ‘Free Volleyball School’ project run by the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro (OSCG) was held on Sunday, June 18, in the hall of the Risto Manojlović Elementary School in the city of Kolašin.

The event featured as many as 60 young boys who have been training at elementary schools in Pljevlja, Berane, Kolašin, Mojkovac, and Bijelo Polje. The competition was split into two age categories for boys born in 2010 and younger, and boys born in 2008, 2009 and younger. Mr Dragiša Ćalov, the coordinator of the OSCG project, presented trophies and medals.

The team from Berane (with players coming from the Elementary Schools Vuk Karadžić and Vukašin Radunović) triumphed in the division for boys born in 2010 and younger, where the second place went to the team from Bijelo Polje (9. Maj Elementary School), while the third place was taken by the team from Mojkovac (Aleksa Đilas Bećo Elementary School).

In the division for players born in 2008/2009 and younger, the first place was claimed by the team from Bijelo Polje (9. Maj Elementary School), with Berane (Elementary Schools Vuk Karadžić and Vukašin Radunović) in second, whereas the third place was shared by the teams from Pljevlja (Elementary Schools Boško Buha, Ristan Pavlović, and Salko Aljković), Mojkovac (Aleksa Đilas Bećo Elementary School), and Kolašin (Risto Manojlović Elementary School).

The competing teams were led by their respective teachers: Dragan Mašković from Bijelo Polje, Milovan Vešović from Berane, and Željko Cmiljanić from Pljevlja, while Igor Peković was at the helm of both the teams from Mojkovac and Kolašin.

School year ends with bunch of highly successful activities in Bulgaria

by Press 22/06/2023
written by Press

The Bulgarian Volleyball Federation (BVF) organised this past month additional activities run in conjunction with the CEV School Project ‘Play Volleyball – Grow with it’, with events held in Sofia, Pleven, and Lukovit.

The first stop of this roadshow was the SU Ivan Vazov in Pleven, which has established an excellent cooperation with the local volleyball club Olimpiets. Starting from such a positive experience, local school director Dimitar Mitev made a promise to the children who had come to the sports festival to increase the areas available for sports activities. The ceremony, which was attended not only by children, but by many coaches, parents, and teachers as well, was opened in the presence of the Mayor of the Municipality of Pleven, Mr Georgi Spartanski, Atanas Karshev – chief expert at the Ministry of Youth and Sports for Pleven and Lovech and Stefka Velikova – Chairman of the Board of Directors of SSKV Olimpiets. On behalf of the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation, Vice-President David Davidov, Administrative Director Stanislav Nikolov, the coordinator for the national teams Nikolay Ivanov, and the project coordinator Adriana Marinkova took part in the session.

Moreover, hundreds of children from Elementary School no. 16 Raiko Jinzifov in Sofia tried the magic of Volleyball on World Challenge Day and Bulgarian Sports Day – May 17. The beauty of the volleyball game was shown to them by legends of Bulgarian Volleyball and coaches from VC Lokomotiv 1929 Nido Sofia. The sports festival started early in the morning, and the weather smiled on the hundreds of children who were waiting for action to unfold in the school’s spacious yard. Sunny weather and pleasant temperatures allowed the children to enjoy the experience to the fullest.

The next stop of the campaign run by the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation was the city of Lukovit, and this time the project was part of the celebrations of the local Aleko Konstantinov Secondary School. On May 12, the largest school in the municipality, which teaches over 800 students from 1st to 12th grade, celebrated 133 years since its foundation. The boys from grades 5, 6, and 7, welcomed volleyball legend Evgeni Ivanov, with whom they contested a tournament under the slogan ‘Volleyball Stars’. Players from the local volleyball club Botev helped with the demonstration of volleyball skills. The school also received volleyballs from BVF as part of the project.

School Project activities for this school year were finalised in the capital’s Secondary School 88 Dimitar Popnikolov in the Ovcha Kupel 1 district. For 88 SU, Volleyball is a tradition and one of their favourite sports. This year, their team claimed first place in the competition for girls from grades 5 and 6 in the District Round of the School Games organised by the Sofia Metropolitan Municipality. The interest in the sport at the school was also evidenced by a gym full of children, who had come together to observe the demonstration training and appreciate the skills of their classmates.

Maja Will Continue Her Career in Scandicci, First Transfer Announcements From VakifBank

by Press 19/06/2023
written by Press

One of the best setters in women’s volleyball history, the Serbian international Maja Ognjenovic will play in the CEV Cup champions Scandicci next season, while VakifBank made their first official transfer announcements with Busa and Van Aalen.

The CEV Cup titleholder Savino Del Bene Scandicci will participate in the CEV Champions League Volley next season, and they have already started to build a strong roster for that: Recently, the club published that Maja Ognjenovic will wear their jersey next season.

Including an abundance of individual awards and gold medals with her national team and clubs, 38-year-old Maja is undoubtedly considered one of the best players in her position. Last season, she was in the Eczacibasi Dynavit Istanbul for the second consecutive season and took the silver medal in #CLVolleyW and Turkish Sultanlar League. In her new Italy journey, she will definitely be a key player.

The defending CEV Champions League Volley champions VakifBank Istanbul, also started to announce their new players. Recently, the Serbian outside hitter Bianka Busa and Dutch setter Sarah Van Aalen’s transfers have gotten public.

Busa is undoubtedly a critical player for the Serbian national team, and she helps her compatriots in the historical successes, including two CEV EuroVolley and two FIVB World Championship triumphs. She spent her last season in Türkiye as well: She completed the domestic league in eleventh place with her former team, PTT Spor.

Playing in VakifBank will be an excellent opportunity for the 23 years of age Sarah Van Aalen. She had a #CLVolleyW experience last year with her team, SC Potsdam. She also won the German Supercup as well as second place in the league and the national cup. It will be her first Türkiye experience in a favorite club for all tournaments they will participate in.

The transfer market is getting increasingly exciting day by day for the most elite domestic leagues of the continent. We will see how the Scandicci’s Maja and VakifBank’s Busa&Van Aalen transfer shape the new balance of powers.
