EKO mini volleyball league resumes in Montenegro

by Admin 06/03/2023
written by Admin

The highly successful EKO mini volleyball league run by the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro (OSCG) resumed this past weekend. The league is part of the CEV School Project ‘Play Volleyball – Grow with it’ and it helps mobilise hundreds of children from across the Balkan country.

The second half of the season started on Sunday, March 5, with matches scheduled for the 8th round of play. The EKO mini volleyball league has already reached its sixth edition – and this past weekend girls born in 2010 and 2011 – as well as younger ones – took to the court.

Next to the EKO mini volleyball league, the OSCG is running also the ‘Free Volleyball School’ project – which is designed to involve and engage with young boys from sections of the country where Volleyball is not yet popular or practiced that extensively.

written by Press

The third consecutive EuroVolley appearance of Team MKD, and the first in front of a home audience, is a great opportunity to combine the beautiful and the useful. The matches in the Boris Trajkovski arena will be a real treat not only for Macedonian fans, but for everyone who decides to travel and watch Volleyball of the finest level in Skopje. The Volleyball Federation of North Macedonia as one of the CEV EuroVolley 2023 Men co-organisers is preparing a wide and varied offer for all guests.

Macedonian Volleyball has been living the dream for the last few years, and while enjoying the company of the European elite in the sport, it wants to share the joy with everyone who will participate in the major event due to run from August 28 to September 16. The Volleyball Federation recently signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Agency for the Promotion and Support of Tourism to foster the development of sports tourism in the Balkan country, which is known for its hospitality and natural beauty.

“Sports tourism is one of the ways to travel that is becoming more and more popular in the world. More and more often, people travel to a sporting event for a few days and experience the tourist offers of the destination. To this extent, the main activities in the upcoming period will be aimed at promotion for greater regional and European visibility of CEV EuroVolley 2023 Men. We will motivate as many guests as possible to follow the matches and explore the beauty of the city of Skopje. We will have meetings with tour operators and hoteliers to provide the best possible conditions and a complete show for all Volleyball fans,” said the Director of the Agency for the Promotion and Support of Tourism, PhD Ljupcho Janevski.

At the upcoming international fair in Berlin next week, the Agency will promote the event with the Pool C matches in Skopje as a main point, which will feature – next to the home team –2014 and 2018 world champions Poland, 1996 Olympic champions the Netherlands, Czechia, Denmark, and Montenegro.

“It is a special honour and pleasure that we have signed this Memorandum of Cooperation. This is official support for us from a state institution and we hope that this can be an initial sign for other institutions to stand on our side and support the organisation of this extraordinary event for us,” said Zoran Karanović, Secretary General of the MKD Volleyball Federation.

Given that ticket sales have only recently started, the first indications of the fans’ interest are expected soon. The Macedonians hope that the figures will be impressive and that in addition to enjoying Volleyball of the highest calibre, the country will show its potential as a sports-tourist destination. The event is in the summer when tourism is in prime time. Therefore, ‘Taste MKD’, and the hosts will do their best for you to live and share an experience to remember!

by Press 01/03/2023
written by Press

Traditionally, the Serbian Cup finals are taking place on the same day, in the same venue for men and women. This year, the hosts were ZOK UB, from the central Serbian city of Ub. The matches were played on Sunday, with nearly 3,500 spectators in the stands and more than 700,000 people watching the competition live on TV – a great spectacle in which Partizan Efbet BEOGRAD retained their men’s title, and ZOK UB lifted the women’s trophy for the second time in history.

Both matches ended up lasting for five sets, giving fans a total of seven hours of happiness and joy in an afternoon that was rightly called a true volleyball festival.

In the first match, Partizan Efbet edged Vojvodina NS Seme NOVI SAD 3-2 (21-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-19, 15-7), after 132 minutes of play, thus winning their ninth Cup title overall in the men’s competition. In the second match, ZOK UB beat Jedinstvo STARA PAZOVA after completing a stunning comeback 3-2 (25-27, 19-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-12) in 133 minutes, to claim their second Cup title in the history of the women’s competition.

MVPs Milija Mrdak and Bojana Ćelić strike a pose after receiving their awards

The most valuable players of the Cup finals (MVP) were Milija Mrdak, the opposite of Partizan Efbet, and Bojana Ćelić, receiver of ZOK UB.

After completion of both matches, the awarding ceremony took place where all four teams got their rightfully deserved prizes.

Gyula Mester, President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, and Ivan Knežević, Secretary General, presented Slađana Erić, team captain of ZOK UB, and Milija Mrdak, team captain of Partizan Efbet, with the Cup Winners’ trophies.

Vesna Djurišić and Danilo Mrdja gave away also the consolation trophies for the Serbian Cup finalists to Isidora Kockarević, team captain of Jedinstvo, and Petar Krsmanović, team captain of Vojvodina.

Partizan Efbet retained their title – to make it nine triumphs in the men’s competition

The prizes for the MVP players of the finals were presented by Vesna Djurišić and Danilo Mrdja, both representing the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, and Nenad Ralević, member of the Board of Directors of Banka Poštanska Štedionica (Postal Savings Bank), the general sponsor of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia.
