Türkiye to host CEV EuroVolley 2026 Finals!

by Press 08/11/2024
written by Press

Türkiye completes the ‘magic foursome’ of countries due to co-host the 2026 edition of CEV EuroVolley Women, thereby joining the likes of Czechia, Azerbaijan, and Sweden. The continental championship and ultimate Volleyball party will return to Türkiye with the ‘Sultans of the Net’ taking to the court as the reigning European champions following the historic triumph they secured in Brussels in early September of 2023.

In a repeat of what happened when the revamped competition format was introduced in 2019, Türkiye will be playing host to one pool in the group stage, half of the 8th Finals and quarterfinal matches plus the subsequent semis and medal matches. The actual host city/cities will be announced in due time. Back in 2019, Türkiye finished the tournament in second place after losing a dramatic gold medal match to Serbia in front of a sell-out crowd in Ankara.

“We are taking EuroVolley to Türkiye at a time when women’s Volleyball has never been as popular. With the home team due to defend their crown on home soil, fans will experience all the excitement and drama of elite Volleyball, and the event will for sure draw the attention of an astounding number of people across Europe and further beyond. We look forward to working with the Turkish Volleyball Federation, their national authorities and partners to deliver a memorable experience for all involved.”Roko Sikirić CEV President

“After the unforgettable event held in 2019, we are thrilled to once again be at the heart of European Volleyball as hosts. We are participating in the tournament as the defending European champions and we look forward to repeating our success on home soil with the passionate support of our fans,” says Turkish Volleyball Federation President, Mehmet Akif Üstündag.

“As the reining European champions, we are once again the host of the European Championship. In 2026, the continental championship will be held in our beautiful country. We are looking forward to sharing our passion for Volleyball together with the whole country in our own home.” eda Erdam Team captain of turkiye

Apart from the teams representing the four host countries, another eight have already secured their participation in the event by virtue of their position in the final standing of the 2023 edition. These are Serbia, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland, France, Bulgaria, Ukraine, and Slovakia. Another 12 will join the continental elite of the sport after completion of the CEV EuroVolley 2026 qualifiers scheduled for the summer of 2025.

Since 2019, EuroVolley has featured as many as 24 teams in each gender and taken place across four host countries, thereby igniting a real Volleyball fever across Europe and providing players, fans and media alike with an experience to remember.

Romanian Volleyball Federation elects new leadership for next four years

by Press 25/10/2024
written by Press

Earlier this month, the Romanian Volleyball Federation (FRV) held its General Assembly to elect their leadership for the upcoming four-year term. Out of 182 eligible members, as many as 149 were present at the assembly. Adin Marian Cojocaru was re-elected as President. Cojocaru expressed gratitude for the renewed trust placed in him and outlined ambitious plans for the future of Romanian Volleyball.

“We are committed to continuing the projects we have started,” Cojocaru stated. “I am grateful that the hard work of our team at the federation is recognised, but the upcoming term will demand even more effort. In 2025, we will participate in the Men’s World Championship, and in 2026, Romania will host CEV EuroVolley Men. Having already organised similar such events, we are well-prepared to deliver it successfully.”

Cojocaru also emphasised the importance of restructuring internal committees and aligning objectives for the new term. “The priority is to re-establish the committees and get them operational. After that, the Executive Board will begin implementing the strategies that will drive Romanian Volleyball forward over the next four years. I am thankful to those who believe in our vision, and I promise we will work tirelessly to complete our projects and ensure Romanian Volleyball continues to proudly represent our country on the international stage.”

Alongside Cojocaru, two Vice Presidents were elected: Mihai Duță and Iulian Pîslaru, who received 82 and 75 votes respectively. Duță, who served as Vice-President in the previous term too, has been a key supporter of the federation’s initiatives, while Pîslaru, currently the general manager of CSM BUCURESTI and a former standout player, is expected to contribute significantly to the FRV’s growth. “I am confident that with their expertise, we will successfully achieve our goals,” Cojocaru added.

The newly elected members of the FRV Executive Board for the 2024-2028 term are as follows: Răzvan Roșu (105 votes), Lucian Năstase (104 votes), Adina Salaoru (104 votes), Alin Mataizer (103 votes), Ramona Ceamuru (99 votes), Florin Voinea (98 votes), Emilian Crihană (88 votes), Marian Ștefan (65 votes), and Cornel Itu (59 votes).

Looking ahead: Ambitious plans for 2025 and 2026

As Cojocaru embarks on his new term, he aims to build upon the progress made in recent years. “We are focused on continuing the development of the sport at both senior and junior levels. Our immediate objectives include preparing for the 2025 Men’s World Championship and laying the groundwork for the 2026 European Championship, which we are honoured to co-host.”

Cojocaru highlighted the federation’s commitment to youth development as well: “We are placing particular emphasis on nurturing talent in our U13, U15, U17, and U19 teams. It is critical that we raise the level of our young players to ensure a strong pipeline for the future.”

By the end of this new term, Cojocaru envisions significant progress for Romanian Volleyball on the global stage. “I hope to see us climb higher in the world rankings, for both the men’s and women’s teams. Our goal is to qualify both teams for the European Championship, and with the men already qualified, we are rather optimistic. Additionally, we aim to reach at least the quarterfinals of the 2026 European Championship. Achieving that would provide a major boost in points and increase our chances of competing in the 2027 World Championships.”

With experienced leadership in place and a clear strategic direction, the Romanian Volleyball Federation is poised for continued success in both domestic and international competitions.
