Zetova and U18 women acknowledged as Best Coach and Best Team in Bulgaria for 2024

by Press 26/02/2025
written by Press

Antonina Zetova and the members of the U18 women’s national team have been awarded as the Best Coach and Best Team in Bulgaria for 2024. They became European champions in that age category last summer in Romania and received their awards after winning an annual poll involving sports media from across the Balkan country. The ceremony was attended by the President of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev.

“It is a historic achievement not only for youth Volleyball,” said Zetova. “In an Olympic year and with so many medals, becoming the best coach shows how great an influence team sports have. Volleyball is the most social and most successful sport in Bulgaria.”

Since the end of 2024, Zetova has been the coach of the women’s ‘senior’ national team of Bulgaria.

#CLVolleyW Final Four to take place in Istanbul!

by Press 17/02/2025
written by Press

Istanbul will welcome the real elite of women’s Volleyball for the Final Four of this year’s CEV Champions League Volley scheduled for May 3-4, 2025! A Final Four has not taken place to crown the queens of European Volleyball since 2018 – when it was last held in Bucharest and ended with Türkiye’s VakifBank ISTANBUL claiming their fourth title. This time, the top four teams emerging from the quarterfinals will be coming together in Istanbul for the most anticipated and electrifying showdown of the season!

It is not the first time that a #CLVolleyW Final Four has taken place by the Bosphorus. It did previously happen in 2002, in 2011, as well as in 2013. The event returns to a city and a country where women’s Volleyball enjoys tremendous popularity – a country that has produced the eventual #CLVolleyW winners as many as eight times since 2011!

“Istanbul is a real mega-city, a major Volleyball hub, a place with unparalleled historical heritage – therefore, it is an ideal location where to deliver the first #CLVolleyW Final Four since 2018. The local audience is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, but we look forward to hosting many international fans as well. I would like to thank our local partners and especially Turkish Volleyball Federation President Mr Üstündag for their readiness to work with us on the delivery of a magnificent event.”
Roko Sikirić
CEV President

After the Super Finals had coincided with the season climax between 2019 and 2024, the competition returns to its ‘traditional’ format – with the top four teams in Europe coming together for a weekend filled with world-class Volleyball and spine-tingling entertainment consisting of two semi-finals on the Saturday (May 3) and the bronze and gold medal matches following on Sunday, May 4.

“We are very proud to host the CEV Champions League Volley Women’s Final Four, – one of the most prestigious club tournaments in Europe – in Istanbul, one of the most popular cities in the world, on 3-4 May 2025. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this great organisation, and I wish good luck to all participating teams. I would also like to thank the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) and its President Roko Sikirić for entrusting this important organisation to Türkiye once again.”
Mehmet Akif Üstündag
President of the Turkish Volleyball Federation

A. Carraro Imoco CONEGLIANO of Italy are the defending champions following their success last year in Antalya.

Further information on the venue, the start of the ticket sale and much more will follow in due course.

CEV President joins high-profile talks to enhance support for Volleyball community in Bosnia and Herzegovina

by Press 17/02/2025
written by Press

CEV President Roko Sikirić continues to travel extensively across Europe to liaise with members of the European Volleyball family and their respective national authorities in an effort to raise the profile of the game and develop an even closer cooperation with key stakeholders. With this in mind, earlier this week he travelled to Sarajevo for a series of high-profile meetings with local partners and high-ranking officials

Mr Sikirić joined the President of the Volleyball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (OSBiH), Milutin Popović, recently elected as President of the Balkan Volleyball Association (BVA), and one of his colleagues from the OSBiH Board, Mirsad Kadric, for a meeting with the President and Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr Izet Radjo and Mr Said Fazlagic.

The parties discussed how both the CEV and the NOC can best support the Volleyball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in their activities, with a special focus on securing participation of the national teams from the Balkan country in international competitions. The meeting was an opportunity to review the challenges currently faced by the local Volleyball family and to renew the CEV’s commitment to support the OSBiH current and future endeavours.

Later in the day, the CEV President and his OSBiH partners had a subsequent meeting with the Minister of Civil Affairs, Mrs Dubravka Bošnjak, whose portfolio includes sport as well. The parties reviewed the same areas of cooperation already discussed earlier in the day with the NOC while also emphasising the importance of supporting joint initiatives and programmes likely to grow the sport at the grassroots level – with development actions regarded as pivotal towards inspiring youngsters to lead a healthy lifestyle as well as to pursue a career in competitive sport.

The CEV President had a meeting with the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the Balkan country, Mrs Dubravka Bošnjak

The CEV President takes many positives from the meetings in Sarajevo as he continues to work tirelessly to unite the European Volleyball family and to provide opportunities to each member of such a varied, incredibly rich community – all driven by the same passion for the game.

210 people attend second CEV School Project workshop in Albania

by Press 06/02/2025
written by Press

This past Friday and Saturday, as many as 210 people came together in Albania’s capital city, Tirana, for a workshop run in conjunction with the CEV School Project ‘Play Volleyball – Grow with it’. It is already the second such initiative after a previous similar action in March of 2023 organised in Albania – a country where the CEV School Project has helped spread the passion for Volleyball to many youngsters with the help of local clubs and schools. The event was organised in cooperation with the Albanian Volleyball Federation (FSHV) and the National Olympic Committee of Albania.

The workshop included theoretical classes on Friday followed by practical sessions the next day, all run by CEV School Project Instructor Kristof De Loose of Belgium and CEV Education & Referee Coordinator François Watthez. De Loose is well-known across Europe for his ability to work creatively with coaches and children, thereby triggering their passion for the sport, and in Tirana he shared again his wealth of experience in working at the entry level of the game.

The CEV School Project has spread the love for Volleyball across Albania. If we look at the 2023-2024 school year alone, the programme involved as many as 5,335 kids across the country through 16 clubs and 183 schools. Those attending last week’s workshop in Tirana will now return to their hometowns and be responsible for the dissemination of their newly acquired knowledge and for transferring the very same ‘Volleyball fire’ to as many youngsters as possible.
