Erblira Bici signs contract with Roma Volley

by Press 11/05/2022
written by Press

Albanian BVA volleyball Star Erblira Bici closed a satisfying season in the second tier of women’s volleyball in Italy, in Serie A2, as the best scorer of the Futuro Giovani Busto Arsizio team, with 446 points scored in 24 games, with an average of 18.6 points for each match. This performance has ranked her among the top 8 scorers of the Serie A2 and now she will begin a new adventure in Italy.

A day after announcing the end of the contract with Futuro Giovani Busto Arsizio, the 26-year-old has announced her new destination. It is Roma Volley, the team that aims to climb up as soon as possible to the highest level of the Italian Women’s Volleyball Championship.

And one of the main pillars of the project of the capital team is the captain of the “Red & black” Albania national, who, after 4 titles and 5 Albanian Cups won in the earlier years of her career, in 2016 moved to Italy, where it excelled in two seasons with LPM Mondovina in Serie A2, continuing to move to Serie A1 for another two seasons with Igor Novara.  With Novara, she won the Italian Cup and became the first Albanian to be crowned European champion. Then followed two more seasons in the Serie A1, with UYBA and Cuneo Granda Volley, while last season, she excelled in the A2 with Futuro Giovani Busto Arsizio.

The 186cm tall opposite is seen as a quality reinforcement for Rome, while the player herself has expressed her satisfaction for this move.

“I have been told very well about the club and the environment in it”, she said.

“Cuccarini is a well-known coach and the fact that he has asked for me, gives me pride. And I want to give everything for this team because I know that playing for Roma is a privilege and I can not wait to start. I know that Rome fans are special and I hope they expect and support not only me but all the girls. The only promise I can make to them is that I will give the maximum, in order to regain the A1 Series, winning and winning the A2 “, concluded BVA Star, Erblira Bici, speaking for the official website of Roma Volley.

Skënderbeu ends 36-year-long wait, brings women’s title back to Korça

by Press 09/05/2022
written by Press

The 76th edition of the Albanian elite women’s national league, the Superliga, ended this past Saturday, crowning Skënderbeu as the winners, after the team from Korça settled the championship series in four matches. The players coached by Pandush Kapedani secured the sixth title in their club’s history, as the ‘Red-and-Whites’ won five back in the 80s, while this was their first such triumph in the last three decades.

This is the first title for Skënderbeu since 1986, the last time they had become champions. That was a truly special achievement, because the team from Korça was the only one that managed – doing so for two years in a row in 1985 and 1986 – to break the 18-year-old hegemony of Dinamo Tirana.

Regarding the final duel for the title, it was a confrontation with some contrasts. Skënderbeu closed the first match at home in three sets only, on the evening of April 28, proceeding three days later, on May 1, to lose in three sets to Tirana, in the second game played at the Feti Borova Sports Hall at the Olympic Park of Tirana.

However, in the third round played in Korça on May 4, Skënderbeu responded well to cruise to an emphatic 3-0 victory, thus approaching the fourth match with the opportunity to seal the title. And it happened so on Saturday evening, on the floor of the Asllan Rusi Sports Palace in the capital, in what was undoubtedly one of the most beautiful, if not the most beautiful match of the season, lasting for about two hours. Skënderbeu prevailed, winning the first two sets, the first in 22 minutes, 25-19 and the second, 25-23. The “White-and-Blue” girls of Tirana coached by Amarilda Prenga-Sijoni responded by winning the third set (26-24) but the fourth started better for the travelling team, which maintained composure and won it 25-23 in 26 minutes, thus taking the match (3-1) and crowning themselves the national champions of Albania.

Congratulating Skënderbeu on their success, the President of the Albanian Volleyball Federation, Erlind Pëllumbi, praised both finalists for the high level that they displayed throughout the entire season, but especially during the play-off stage and its finals. For Pëllumbi, this was one of the best seasons of the last two decades. “Absolutely, this was a season of a very high level, both for men and women,” he said, speaking after the closing of the women’s championship.

“Of course, the main credit goes to the organisation of this season’s championship, but, especially, the valuable contribution given by the main actors of our sport, member clubs, who, through the investment they made in their teams, brought about a higher level of competition. Even the foreign players and players who became part of the Albanian teams this season brought new experiences and their combination with local players helped to further improve the quality of the game”, saidErlind Pëllumbi President of the Albanian Volleyball Federation

Pëllumbi has already turned his attention to the national team season and upcoming international events. “After a beautiful club season, we are already working for the participation of national teams in continental tournaments, but also on the organisation of two international tournaments for European and Balkan competitions. These will confirm our country on the map of international Volleyball, both in terms of sports as well as from an organisational standpoint,” he concluded.

Double crown for Galeb Liko Soho Group

by Press 04/05/2022
written by Press

Galeb Liko Soho Group is the new champion of Montenegro in the women’s competition! Petar Kokovic’s team defeated Luka Bar in finals of playoffs his biggest rival with 3:0 in victories, won the third title since independence of Montenegro and thus broke the dominance of Vladimir Milacic’s team in domestic championship which lasted for nine years. In third match of finals, Galeb Liko Soho Group celebrated with 3:0 (25:20, 25:21, 25:16) and after 11 years of waiting they won national championship (they were champions in 2010. and 2011.). Galeb won the double crown, because they recently triumphed in the national Cup final, also against Luka Bar.

In last match of final Megan Fergus from USA was the best player in Galeb Liko Soho team with 10 points, while Dusanka Petrovic with 12 points was the best in Luka Bar team.

“I would like to thank girls first for a great season. When you have good people and top players in team, result cannot be different than it was. Also all praise for the work, sacrifice and approach throughout the season. I would also like to thank the management for the extraordinary conditions they provided and it is really an honor to be a part of all this. I would also like to emphasize the great merits of Rajko Tijanic, assistant coach Tomo Pekic and fitness coach Vladan Mihailovic, who with their great efforts were a great help during the entire season. I can freely say that this is a dream season and that it is my privilege to be a coach of this team. Once again, I would like to thank the audience who were the wind in our backs throughout the season. In the end, a double crown, as befits a red and white color”, said Petar Kokovic, head coach of Galeb Liko Soho Group.

President of Volleyball Federation Montenegro Cvetko Pajkovic handed over Championship trophy to Teodora Cavic, team captain of Galeb Liko Soho Group.

Reinforced by USA players Gerard and Fergus in the two most sensitive positions, setters and opposite, Galeb was simply too strong for all rivals, including the drastically younger team of Luka Bar this year, in whose ranks captain Dusanka Petrovic jumped.

Member of Managing board of VF Montenegro Nenad Vujanovic presented silver medals to Luka Bar.
