“I am glad that we managed to gather after this difficult period, because we have ahead of us the Qualifiers for the European Championship and the matches in Sarajevo against the National teams of Switzerland and Bosnia and Herzegovina. As it is already known, the national team of Belarus will not participate in this tournament, which makes this group extremely interesting, although it is early and ungrateful to talk about expectations because we do not know much about the opponents. In this short period, we will try to prepare as best we can for the duels ahead of us, and we have the positive circumstance that the girls are already in a very competitive rhythm. It should also be mentioned that in relation to the original list, there has been one change. Majda Cakar could not participate in this action because of health problems, due to which she will probably be out of the training process for a couple of months, so I decided, in consultation with a my staff, to give chance to Kristina Gazdic from Rudar Pljevlja”, said U19 Women Team Montenegro head coach Zlatko Cacic.

VakifBank closer to meeting Conegliano in the #SuperFinalsLjubljana

by Press 31/03/2022
written by Press

Delivering a great spectacle on Wednesday evening, and to the delight of all fans of Turkish Volleyball, the two of the strongest local teams – Vakifbank and Fenerbahce, locked horns in the home semi-final match in this season’s edition of Europe’s top club women’s competition – CEV Champions League Volley 2022. The two powerhouses of Istanbul battled it out in front of a full house at Vakifbank Spor Sarayi, but it was CLVolleyW 2021 runners-up of VakifBank who prevailed, and claimed a 3-1 victory.

This way, the players around head coach Giovanni Guidetti made an important step towards the #SuperFinalsLjbljana, and if they seize another victory next week in the away match, Volleyball supporters will enjoy a rematch of last year’s Big Finale as the winner of this semi-final tie will meet A. Carraro Imoco Conegliano.

On the other hand, Fenerbahçe Opet will search of a second Champions League victory against VakifBank ISTANBUL next week, in the final-deciding away semi-final match, as their only won was a five-set victory in the second leg of the 2014/15 Playoffs 6 in Istanbul.

Gabriela Braga Guimaraes (Gabi) of VakifBank was chosen for MVP on tonight’s matchup, scoring as many as 22 points for the win. On the other hand, 25 points by top scorer Melissa Vargas of Fenerbahce weren’t enough for a better outcome for the guests in this fixture.

“It was really important for us, to make this first step. It was a difficult match, we didn’t expect to win 3-0. We knew that we needed to show aggressivitiy, as we know their power in block-defence. Next match, we will have to do the same, although it won’t be easy in front of their fans“, said Gabi player of VakifBank Istanbul.

“Fenerbahce Opet are a very strong team. We’ve met each other many times this season, and we always knew what we can expect and how hard this game would be. I am very happy that we won. Now, an even more difficult test awaits us, because next week, we will play in front of their fans. We are very excited about that match”, said Michelle Bartsch-Hackley player of VakifBank Istanbul.

Budva and Galeb crowned Montenegrin Cup winners in Podgorica

by Press 30/03/2022
written by Press

The Volleyball Federation Montenegro (OSCG) recently delivered a real Volleyball fiesta with the finals of the men’s as well as of the women’s national cup contested at the Verde Sports Complex in Podgorica on the very same day – and with two TV channels broadcasting the matches live nationwide.

In a truly dramatic men’s final, which lasted five sets and had a number of twists, OK Budva defended their title as they edged Buducnost Volley 3-2 (25-19, 25-19, 25-27, 23-25, 15-7) to lift the trophy for the fourth straight season.

“It was as we predicted it would be, a duel of two very equal teams. We saw a thriller, where we claimed a 2-0 lead, but Buducnost woke up and showed their true character. We managed to defend the trophy, which was our goal in the very beginning and maybe with this result the victory is even sweeter,” said the head coach of Budva, Milos Markovic.

The President of the Volleyball Federation Montenegro Cvetko Pajkovic presented the trophy to the players of Budva, as the Executive Director of Elektroprivreda Crne Gore, the General sponsor of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro, Nikola Rovcanin awarded the winners with the gold medals.

“Congratulations to the team of Budva on winning the National Cup and congratulations to my players on a phenomenal game tonight. I think we fulfilled what we talked about in the previous days, as we fought with everything we had until the very end. Most importantly, we made this magnificent event even better and more beautiful. I am proud of how my guys played throughout the match, but tonight the rival was just better than us. I think we are on the right path, and we will have something to show in the playoffs of the national league,” said the head coach of Buducnost, Balsa Radulovic.

“I would like to congratulate Buducnost on their amazing fight and of course to congratulate my club on the victory. It was a very difficult match, worthy of a final. In the third set, we may have started to celebrate a little too early, so we added a bit of drama and uncertainty to the match, but we showed our character. Our experience made the difference in the fifth set and I am very happy about that”, said Aleksandar Gmitrovic MVP of the men’s Final

Galeb Liko Soho Group defeated their city rivals Luka Bar 3-0 (25-22, 25-11, 25-16) to take the women’s title for the fifth year in a row and the seventh time in history.

“I would like to thank the team of Luka Bar for a fair and correct game. I would especially like to congratulate my girls, who deserved this title since the first day of this season. I am glad that I extended the winning streak in the national cup that started under former head coach Nikola Masonicic. We do not have much time to celebrate, as we must prepare for the semi-finals of the national league against Akademija. Today’s result is correct, and I expected an even better game from my team,” said Petar Kokovic, head coach of Galeb Liko Soho Group.

Mr Pajkovic presented the trophy to the winners, as the President of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro Assembly Zoran Vukcevic was in charge of awarding the players of Galeb with the gold medals.

“We just were not close, except maybe when they showed a slightly weaker game at the end of the first set. The victory of Galeb was crystal clear. Of course, they are also the favourites to win the championship, as they simply have a higher quality compared to the rest of us,” said Vladimir Milacic, head coach of Luka Bar.

“I am very proud of my team. We train hard every day, we prepared for this and it brought the desired result, we showed how powerful we are. I am also very proud because the girls are very young and want to learn”, said Andrea Lakovic MVP of the women’s final.
